Young Driver Classic Car Insurance
Classic Car Insurance Young Driver
Although classic cars are often associated with older drivers, that’s partly because older motorists are sometimes better placed financially to afford these higher-end motors. However, if a younger driver has the financial means to afford a classic car or vintage car, and if they happen to be a car aficionado who appreciates the incredible design, engineering and technological innovation that went into the development of many classic car models, there’s no reason why they couldn’t find a suitable classic car insurance policy for younger drivers.
They are likely to pay more for that insurance than an older driver though, which means it’s even more important that they shop around for the best deals.
Classic car insurance under 25s
Is it true young drivers pay more for classic car insurance?
Yes, as with insurance for an ordinary, run-of-the-mill car, young drivers usually pay more for classic car insurance too.
The reason for that is fairly straightforward. Insurance claims data indicates that younger drivers are more likely to claim on their insurance, and accident data supports that by revealing that younger drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident, and both of those factors make younger drivers a higher insurance risk for the insurer.
OK, but how much does young driver classic car insurance cost?
The honest answer is “it depends”.
Your age is just one of the risk factors insurers will take into consideration when you’re comparing classic car insurance – the make and model of car you’re insuring, its age and annual mileage will all affect your premium too, as will your location, no claims discount and driving record.
That’s why we recommend that young drivers compare real classic car insurance quotes from a wide range of different providers, and then go with the one that offers the best policy at the most competitive price.
Classic car insurance for 17 year olds
Car insurance for 17 year olds has always been costly, regardless of whether you are looking to insure a classic car or not. Finding coverage for this age is difficult but not impossible, with some insurers offering coverage for young drivers of classic cars despite the higher risk. Some insurers may offer you a discount on your standard premium costs, but there may be other requirements that need to be met in order to qualify. Typically this includes being a member of a classic car club.
Can I fit a black box to my classic car in order to reduce the cost of my young driver insurance?
Although black box insurance (or telematics insurance, as it’s also known) is often a good option for young drivers, these policies sometimes can’t be taken out if your car is more than 20 years old.
Of course, if you own a newer ‘modern classic’ it’s possible it might be an option, but for any vehicles that meet the government’s ‘40 year rule’ for tax-exempt and MOT-exempt classic cars, black box insurance may not be suitable.
